MARCH 10, 1966 – DECEMBER 13, 2023
At a very young age, Lisa recognized what became two of the mainstays of her life: music and swimming. In grade school she took up playing trumpet and loved about every kind of music. As a young adult, she worked as a lifeguard and ended up playing lead trumpet in college. The quote “Find a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life” certainly applied to Lisa when she began working for Westside High School. She dedicated her life to being the best swim coach, mentor, and friend that she could possibly be. When her life was interrupted by cancer, Lisa discovered a new program for survivors called “A Time to Heal”. She began the 12-week program on May 1, 2005. It was no surprise Lisa wasn’t content to focus on herself – she wanted to help other cancer survivors. When A Time to Heal needed a place to hold their classes, she made arrangements with her church, First United Methodist in Omaha. Over the years, Lisa faced more challenges with cancer, but she never forgot the lessons she learned from those classes or A Time to Heal. She wanted her legacy to continue helping cancer survivors, and after her passing in December 2023, “Lisa’s Library” was born. This resource is being established for survivors in the Omaha area at the A Time to Heal office, with dozens of free books for both survivors and caregivers.
